The Outpost Video Podcast Ep 2 - Getaway
April 8th 2007 00:59
Here's episode 2 of my podcast. I worked with Mike Connerty on Getaway for years. He is one of the most professional operators I've had the fortune of working with. I've learnt a lot from Mike, and one of the things that still stuns me about him is his ability to remain calm under what is sometimes ridiculous pressure.
I guess you pick that up after 25 years or so!
For more info on Mike, the podcast, RSS feeds and links etc, check out www.outpostpps.com/podcast
Enjoy!

What a lovely face,
what a lovely guy,
loved the opening music,
the rhythm and the beat,
how very modest is he,
oh, what a lovely guy

A lovely poem - I'll have to shoot the blog link over to Mike to take a look! Thanks.

Thanks!
My partner in crime on this one (Julian as listed in the end credits) pretty much share producing, shooting, and editing duties across the podcast eps. I then polish it off for the site and get it online.
Jules usually does the interview while I record sound. The vision on this one was dodgy compared to Ep 1, as we had very little space inside the suite to shoot, and were limited in lighting options. It's very heavily graded, otherwise the original footage really looked quite average - very dark.

Thanks! Will do!
We have a couple of people that we have been chasing for months now - the good ones are always busy!
I am hoping that epiode three will be Dany Cooper ASE, editor of the Battlestar Galactica remake, and most recently Candy.
But like I said, we've been on Dany's case since Candy was still in cinemas - she has agreed to do it, but she is just so busyit's hard to pin her down even for a couple of hours!
Thanks everyone for the feedback - it has renewed my fervour for tis project. Will definitely chase this harder from here.

yeah i also liked it, i think your subject was an excellent find, a befiiting set (and i liked the dressing of it - particularly when the subject slumped and we experience a headroom shift! nice.)
he has a nice way of approaching his projects and i think his style could be adapted to any form of creative expression. he also hit the nail on the head with the future of media.
i have to ask, why is this considered a podcast? what are the other delivery forms that it takes and what is the history behind the program?

If by program you mean The Outpost Podcast - this is it. There are no other delivery forms outside of www.outpostpps.com/podcast (you can subscribe from there if you like ;o) , YouTube, and probably MySpace soon.
The 'history' is that I am an editor, and fascinated by the craft of it. I have met plenty of these guys in my work, and always love to sit over a coffee or beer with them and hear their stories. I was looking for a side project to do along with a colleague, so we joined forces to do this. It was a very niche kind of programming, and didn't bother trying to take it to commercial television. We just got up and did it.
We have since been distracted by other work - we have a 'real' show coming up on a major network in a couple of months or so - but I am starting to get drawn back to this.
Short term plan is to continue as we are - podcast. Longer terms plans include perhaps a short run of a series or a DVD... who knows. But for now we just want to create a nice little resource with some great interviews. Once we get a nice little archive of material we will think about the next step.
Thanks for the comments!
